Mabel F. Kramer-Rafalko, 96, Accomplished League Bowler

Photo of Mabel F. Kramer-Rafalko Mabel F. Kramer-Rafalko (nee Roupe), age 96, of Lorain, died Thursday February 20, 2025 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home.

She was born September 24, 1928 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to George & Merle Roupe (nee Matlick) and moved to Lorain in 1951.

Mabel was formerly employed as a production assistant at General Motors Fisher Guide Division in Elyria. She later obtained her cosmetologist’s license and subsequently opened Mabel’s Beauty Salon. In addition to her managerial duties at the salon, she served as an adjunct instructor at the Lorain Beauty School, predecessor to the Northern Institute of Cosmetology.

Mabel married Paul Kramer and had two sons, Kenneth Wayne Kramer and Ronald Paul Kramer. Mabel then married her second husband, Edward Rafalko with whom she shared a marriage of fifty-nine years. Ed passed away in 2014.

Mabel was an accomplished league bowler who participated extensively in tournaments throughout Northeast Ohio. Her bowling prowess led to her induction into the Lorain Bowling Hall of Fame at ceremonies conducted in 2010.

She is survived by her sons Kenneth Kramer (Cyndi) of Lorain and Ronald Kramer (Kay) of Delaware, Ohio; grandchildren: Missy Folley (Mike), Brandon Kramer & Adriane Winkler (Eric); great grandchildren Brandon & Mikenna Folley and Gregory & Alexander Kramer-Winkler; sisters: Eleanor Grieb and Betty Roupe, both of Maryland, Gladys Collins of Pennsylvania and sister-in-law Marion Roupe also of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years Edward F. Rafalko in 2014, her parents George and Merle Roupe (nee Matlick), brothers Harry & Donald Roupe sisters: Thelma Cusick, Virginia Gray, Norma Lyons and Delores Zentkovich as well as her infant great grandson Thomas Kramer-Winkler.

The family will receive friends Monday from: 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be conducted there on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Danny Parsons presiding. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
