Edward J. Jaykel, 83, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Edward J. Jaykel Edward J. Jaykel, Jr. 83, of Lorain, died peacefully with his daughter by his side on Sunday March 16, 2025.

He was born July 31, 1941 in Lorain to Edward J & Jessie V Jaykel (nee Zwolinski) and had been a Lorain resident most of his life.

Ed graduated from Lorain High School and attended Bowling Green State University. He served with the US Army during the Vietnam War.

Ed worked as a transportation supervisor for the Elyria and North Royalton school systems retiring after more than 25 years.

Ed was an avid scuba diver and member of the Lorain Skin Diving Association. He enjoyed flying and was a member of the Discover Flying Club of Lorain County. Ed especially liked spending time with his family and taking road trips with his wife Connie and brother Jim and his wife Jolynne. He enjoyed fishing, boating and gardening. He was a member of St Peter Parish in Lorain.

He is survived by his daughter Heather Webb (Kevin), stepchildren: Denise Velez (Ted) and William Dobis (Sharon); three granddaughters and brother James R Jaykel. He was preceded in death by his wife Connie, his parents and sister-in-law Jolynne Jaykel.

The family will receive friends Thursday March 20, 2025 from 11:00 am until 11:30 am at St Peter Parish, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The mass of Christian Burial will follow beginning at 11:30 am in the church. The Rev Craig Hovanec, pastor, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #32 of Elyria will conduct military honors.
