David Wargo, 90, Avid Golfer

Photo of David Wargo David “Zip” Wargo, 90, of Lorain, died peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday May 17, 2025.

He was born December 23, 1934 in Lorain to Gabriel & Sophie Wargo (nee Riedl) and had been a lifelong Lorain resident.

Zip graduated from Lorain High School and began a long career as a public servant in Lorain County. He served as a bailiff for Judge Adrian Betleski and then retired from the county Engineer’s office. Zip also served as Ward 1 Councilman for the city of Lorain for 14 years.

An avid golfer, Zip had a hole-in-one to his credit and was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years Bernice Wargo (nee Daniel), children: David W. Wargo (Cindy), Brenda Love, Renee Underwood (Rich) and Mark Wargo; close family friend Donna VanDeusen; brothers: Larry Wargo (Marcia) and Tom Wargo (Nancy) and he was blessed with 8 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Angela Lee Wargo, half-brothers Jim, George & Robert Scarborough and half-sister Jean Matysiak.

The family will receive friends Thursday May 22, 2025 from 3:00 pm until the time of funeral services at 7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Online condolences can be made at www.gluvnashimohromada.com.
