Harry B. Siegfried, 97, U.S. Coast Guard Veteran

Photo of Harry B. Siegfried Harry B. Siegfried, 97, of Lorain, died Friday June 6, 2025 at his home of 71 years.

He was born April 12, 1928 in Kenton, Ohio and the family moved to Lorain when Harry was a young child.

Harry graduated from Lorain High School class of 1946A. After graduation he joined the United States Coast Guard. One of his duties in the Coast Guard included being a lighthouse keeper in the Lorain Lighthouse.

He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #42 retiring in 1992 after 27 years. Prior to that he was a Captain on a sand dredge for National Sand and Gravel for 11 years.

Harry was a life member of DAV Chapter #20 of Lorain. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling and fishing. In the 1980’s he ran a sportfishing charter boat out of Lorain. He loved helping people and could fix anything.

He is survived by his children Allan Siegfried (Shari) of Wakeman, Karen Thompson (Eddie) of Avon Lake, MaryJo of Lorain and Frank (Robyn) of Vermilion: 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther Siegfried (nee Bucher) in 2001, son Wayne Siegfried in 1996, daughter Cheryl Pinkerton in 2012, his parents John and Josephine Siegfried (nee Stewart), sister Anna Mae Proy in 2024, half-sister Margaret Jones and half-brother Thomas Cotterill.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of prayer services at 11:00 am at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Rev Keith Morris, associate pastor of Worship From Anchor Church of Avon Lake will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #32 will conduct military honors.
