Anne K. Close, 92, Excellent Cook and Baker

Photo of Anne K. Close Anne K. Close (nee Bruck), age 92, of Lorain, passed away at her residence on the morning of Sunday July 13, 2025 while under the care of Mercy New Life Hospice.

She was born in Elyria on January 27, 1933 and had been a resident of Lorain for most of her life.

Anne graduated from Elyria High School and went on to attend classes at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. She was employed in the food services department at the Lorain County Detention Home; she later transitioned into the role of a customer care specialist for Hallmark Cleaners.

Religion was a very important element in Anne’s life and she attended Mass regularly and faithfully at St. Peter Parish in Lorain. Her family was also of extreme importance to her and she welcomed every opportunity to remain a strong presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren; she especially cherished hosting family gatherings.

Anne was also well known for her prowess as a cook and baker. Among her family favorites were her rendition of lasagna along with her epic and highly coveted Christmas cookies. She also possessed a green thumb with house plants and enjoyed crocheting and solving crossword puzzles in her free time.

Survivors include her sons Eric R. "Rick" Close and Timothy Close along with numerous grandchildren, and several great grandchildren whom she all loved and adored. She also leaves sisters Brenda Mettler and Freda Schneider.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Hugh Close, sons Michael D. Close, Eugene H. Close and Patrick R. Close, father Raymond W. Bruck, mother Freda Bruck (nee Kothe) brothers Raymond and Daniel Bruck, and sister Elaine O'Donnell.

Visitation will take place in St. Peter Parish – 3501 Oberlin Avenue on Friday July 18th from 11:00 a.m. until the time of her Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon. Reverend Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel.
