Celestine Adele Dorsz, 104, Enjoyed Gardening
Celestine Adele Dorsz (nee Carosi), age 104, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at her residence during the early morning hours of Sunday October 5, 2025.
Born in St. Michael, Pennsylvania on December 16, 1920 to Antonio and Ida (nee DeMeis) Carosi, she graduated from John Adams High School in St. Michael.
In 1941 Celestine came to Lorain to visit her uncle, Joe DeMeis, and his wife, Mary (nee Santogrossi); it was during that time she would meet her future husband, Stanley.
During World War II she worked at the Lorain Stove Works as well as U.S. Steel Corporation. In 1952 she enrolled in the St. Joseph School of Practical Nursing and was a member of the school’s first graduating class in 1954. Following commencement and passage of her state licensing examination, she worked as an LPN in the labor and delivery department at St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center for fourteen years. She later transitioned to a position at Lorain Community Hospital where she cared for patients on Four West Tower for an additional ten years.
Celestine was a parishioner of St. Peter Parish in Lorain. In her free time she enjoyed gardening and especially loved growing and cultivating roses. In addition, she was an accomplished cook and baker; although each and every dish that left her kitchen was extraordinary, her stuffed pork chops were epic.
She is survived by her son Robert with whom she made her home and daughter Sandra (David) both residing in Lorain. She also leaves grandchildren David (Holly) of Lorain, Gina (Ron) of Amherst, and Kristine (John) of Westlake along with great grandson Constantine also of Westlake.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley in 1982, father Antonio, mother Ida, sister Antoinette, and brothers Angelo and Italo.
Visitation will be Friday October 10th from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday October 11th beginning with closing prayers offered in the funeral chapel at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Parish – 3501 Oberlin Avenue with Reverend Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the parish presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
