James R. Jaykel, 80, Known for His Kindness and Boundless Generosity

He was born in Lorain on July 27, 1945 and remained a life-long resident of the city; Jim was a 1964 graduate of Admiral King High School.

Following graduation, he enrolled in drafting classes at Lorain County Community College while working for Warner and Associates. He later joined the Lorain City Water Department where he was employed as an operator for a number of years prior to the time of his retirement in 2010

Jim was a member of St. Peter Parish. Dedicated to his family, he was well-known for his kindness and boundless generosity which was amplified by his willingness to help anyone who was in need. In his free time he enjoyed playing the accordion and listening to polka music. Additional interests included testing his luck against casino slot machines as well as dining out with Lenoci’s and Longhorn Steak House being amongst two of his favorite venues.

Survivors include his son James A. Jaykel (Carol) residing in West Henrietta, New York and daughter Julianne Nau (David) of Elyria. He also leaves his granddaughter Jessica Nau.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Jolynne (nee Zahorec) in 2021, father Edward J. Jaykel in 1983 mother Jessie V. Jaykel (nee Zwolinski) in 1978, and brother Edward Jaykel earlier this year.

Please join his family for the celebration of his Mass of Christian burial on Friday October 17th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Parish – 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain on. The Reverend Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the church will serve as celebrant. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.

Contributions in Jim’s memory are encouraged to St. Peter Parish with a special emphasis toward the maintenance fund.
