Beverly Joy Wayda, 93, Enjoyed Baking, Singing, Crafting, Bowling, and Traveling
We are saddened to announce the passing of Beverly Joy Wayda (nee Frey), who entered eternal life on the morning of her 93rd birthday.
Beverly was born in Lorain on October 18, 1932. She was a devoted wife for 46 years, mother to two daughters, grandmother to three grandchildren and the eldest sister of seven siblings.
A lifelong resident of Lorain, Ohio, she graduated from Clearview High School in 1951. She had been employed as a customer care representative at Scott’s Dime Store as well as Pic-N-Pay Grocery. Beverly was an active parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain; a member of both the Ladies Guild and PTA. She was also heavily involved as a volunteer in the church’s kitchen as well as the bingo program.
She was a member of the Greek Catholic Union and a participant in the GCU Bowling League. Bev enjoyed baking, singing, crafting, bowling, and traveling. She and her husband shared many years together enjoying dinners out, dancing, playing cards, attending shows, and visiting with family and friends.
In later years, as arthritis limited her physically, she remained pleasant, good-humored, and always ready to share a laugh, sing a song, pray the rosary, or complete a word search puzzle.
She is survived by daughters Anne Dillon (Kevin) of Amherst, OH and Holly Boynton (Richard) of Scottsdale, AZ, along with her grandchildren Daniel Dillon, Audrey Boynton, and Stephen Dillon. She is also survived by her sister Carol Caris (Frank), brother Greg Frey (Janine), brother-in-law Rodger “Duke” Guelker, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert S. Wayda in 1999, father Carl Frey Sr in 1988, mother Mildred Frey (nee Hellinger) in 2003, brothers Carl “Buzz” Frey Jr (Phyllis) in 2011 and Mark Frey (Kathleen) in 2020, sisters Joan Csutoras (Art) in 2017 and Merrie “Candi” Guelker in 2014.
Friends may call on Friday October 24th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway, Lorain. A Parastas service will be conducted there at 6:00 p.m. The Divine Liturgy will be conducted Saturday October 25th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church – 2711 West 40th Street, Lorain. The Very Reverend Vasyl Kupar will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
