Michael Demich, 79, Former Custodian for Amherst Exempted Village Schools

Photo of Michael Demich Michael “Jedo” Demich, age 79, passed away at the 1907 Assisted Living Center in Amherst on the evening of Monday October 27, 2025 following a period of declining health.

Born in Lorain on May 15, 1946, Mike had been a resident of Lorain County for his entire life; he was a graduate of Clearview High School.

Following his graduation, he joined Zayre’s Department Store in Elyria where he worked in the electronics department. In 1972 he transitioned to a position as custodian for the Amherst Exempted Village School District. During nearly thirty years of service to the school system, he worked at both Powers Elementary School and Amherst High School prior to retiring in 2007.

Mike was proud of his Serbian heritage and remained heavily involved as a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church right up until the time of his passing.

His life was exemplified by his kindness, thoughtfulness, and perpetual willingness to help anyone in need. His family was of extreme importance to him and he always welcomed the opportunity to engage in telephone chats with his granddaughter or attend a movie with his grandson

When not involved in family events or church-related activities, Mike found relaxation in the forms of cooking and baking and always received high praise for his coffee cake recipe. He was also well known for his fondness of the I Love Lucy television series.

He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Jannuzzi (Jack) of Avon Lake, granddaughter Jordan and grandson Jared. Additional survivors include sisters Ann Pasko and ,Marty Skura both residing California, Millie Georgeff of Columbus, Olga Walski (Dan Sr.) of Vermilion and Delores Laughlin of Wakeman. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife Christena (nee Sabo) in 2000, parents Stanley and Mary (nee Blanish) Demich, and siblings Helen Wilson, Sophie Toth, Betty McIntyre, Stanley Demich, and John Demich.

Visitation will take place Friday October 31st from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in St George Serbian Orthodox Church – 3335 Grove Avenue, Lorain.Fr. Nektarije Tesanovic, Pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Amherst.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike’s memory are encouraged to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church.
