Susan Marie Burnette, Loved Teddy Bears and Baskets

Photo of Susan Marie Burnette Susan Sue Marie (nee Straka) Burnette passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 14, 2025.

This followed health issues over a number of years.

Sue was a graduate of the class of 1968 from Lorain High School. She was a dedicated wife to Michael, and mother to two children, Lisa and Mark. She held part time positions as her children grew, but it was when she began working at the floral department at Giant Eagle in Sheffield Village that she was able to express her creativity and love for crafting during her time there. She loved creating arrangements for special occasions, and had many repeat customers who would order from her over the years. It was there that she met a dear friend, Mary, whom she stayed in touch with for many years until Mary passed away a few months before her. She enjoyed helping Mary navigate using her iPhone. Sue was always letting her family know what features were available with the latest iPhone updates. Those close to her knew of her love of collecting teddy bears and baskets through the years.

Sue is survived by her husband, Michael, of 53 years, daughter Lisa (Keith), son Mark (Vicki), grandchildren Avery, Alex, Madison, and Mason, step-grandchildren Isabella, Ethan, and Avery, and a new great grandson, Roman, whom she was so excited to meet before her passing. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret, and sister-in-law, Jayne, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Margaret Straka, in-laws Ruth and Paul Eddy, son-in-law Roger, brothers-in-law Bob and Michael, and sister-in-law Karen.

The family honored her wishes with a private gathering in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel. Chaplain Jamie Stewart representing the Hospice of the Western Reserve officiated. Burial followed in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
