Leonard A. Findish, 85, Fondly Remembered For His Trademark Wit and Humor

Photo of Leonard A. Findish Leonard A. "Len" Findish, 85, of Lorain, died Wednesday December 24, 2025 at his home while lovingly surrounded by his family.

Len approached his lengthy illness with a blend of determination, positivity, endurance, fortitude, and lasting perseverance.

Len was born May 21, 1940 in Windber, Pennsylvania to Andrew & Mary Findish (nee Benko) and had resided in Lorain for over 65 years.

Len worked as a chemical operator at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake, retiring in 1996.

Len cherished many hours spent babysitting his grandchildren on a daily basis for years. He will be fondly remembered for his trademark wit and humor, his enjoyment of his wife's cooking, and his skill as a woodworker and handyman who frequently tinkered in the garage as a Mr. Fix-It. Len enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and making 3D models. A spiritual figurehead for his family, Len was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Carol A. Findish (nee Smith); children: Lenny Findish (Stacy) of Lorain, Mary Theresa Zvosecz (John) of Lorain, Rita Mitrani (Don) of Hardeeville, South Carolina, Rosemarie Findish of Lorain, and Larry Findish of Lorain; grandchildren: Zachary Zvosecz, Lexi Petro (Ben), and Hannah Kitchen (Matt); stepgrandchildren: Aaron Mitrani and Max Mitrani (Katie); great-grandchildren: Elliot Petro and expected twins Cecily & Lucas; his son by choice, Jim Wolford of Lorain; and sisters: Matilda Gallant, Anne Marie Leisse & Mary Lou Riley. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Andrew & Thomas, and infant daughter Monica.

The family would like to thank the extensive, special care of Melanie Devito, CNP throughout the years. Additional appreciation is extended to the helpful, supportive staff of Cleveland Clinic Hospice during Len's last three months.

The family will receive friends Saturday January 3, 2026 from 10:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E Erie Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Edward Smith, pastor, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

Memorial contributions can be made to either: St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain, St. Peter Catholic Church in Lorain, or Cleveland Clinic Hospice.
