Richard A. Grimes, Sr., 80, Enjoyed Woodworking and Building Computers

Photo of Richard A. Grimes, Sr. Richard A. “Rick” Grimes, Sr., age 80, of Lorain, passed away on the morning of Tuesday January 13, 2026.

Born in La Junta, Colorado, he had been a long-time resident of Lorain, Ohio.

Rick joined the Ford Motor Company in 1965 and worked as a production assistant on the passenger car line at the Company’s Lorain Assembly Plant. A member of United Autoworker's Local 425, he retired in 1997 following a career that spanned more than three decades with the automaker.

He was an active member and former Commander of American Legion Post # 30 in Lorain as well as a member of the Lorain Moose Lodge # 552.

Rick was a great man of Faith always sharing the message wherever he went, always encouraging everyone to study God's word and to spend time praying. One of Rick's greatest joys was spending time with family. His hobbies included woodworking, building computers and working with his hands. He found additional relaxation in the forms of photography, fishing, camping, and family genealogy.

He is survived by sons Danny Grimes (Jennifer) of Elyria, Shawn Pyles of Lorain, and Richard Grimes, Jr. (Kim) of Bellevue, daughters Melissa Joy Grimes of Denver, Colorado, Rebecca Gray of West Salem, Lisa Grimes residing in Florida, and Daphne Grimes of Sugar Tree, Tennessee. Rick also leaves forty-six grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Laura (nee Gwynn) in 2017. Father Carl L. Grimes, mother Ruthe N. Grimes (nee Broomfield), and sons Russell and Joseph Grimes.

A celebration of Rick’s life will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday January 25th, 2026 at the American Legion Post # 30 – 1112 West Erie Avenue in Lorain. Fellowship will continue there following the service.
