Vivian Mae McCullough, 94, Lifelong Lover of Music
Vivian Mae McCullough (nee Trubach), age 94, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Lima, Ohio to Oscar Steve and Elizabeth Trubach (nee Mraz), Vivian moved to Sheffield Lake in 1936 where she met her husband, Lyle, and raised her five children.
For the last five years, Vivian thrived in her life at The Rose, growing friends into family, playing bingo (usually winning), participating in art classes, and organizing the annual staff Christmas gift. She always managed to find something in common with everyone she met.
Vivian was a lifelong lover of music and proudly played the tuba in the Brookside bandbeginning a family tradition that led to generations of tuba players following in her footsteps. She excelled academically as well, graduating as the Valedictorian of her senior class and serving as Class President during her junior year.
Beyond music and academics, Vivian found great joy in reading and was a proud supporter of the Domonkas Library, volunteering at the local elementary school reading to the kids, and encouraging the love of reading to her grandkids. She and her husband, Lyle, also cherished their time spent together at the Honey-Do Campground, making many special memories with family and friends around the camp-fire.
Her gracious spirit and leadership extended into her church community, where she served faithfully as the organist, moderator, choir member, and Sunday school teacher. Her devotion to her faith touched countless lives over the years.
Vivian dedicated much of her life to serving the people of Lorain County. She worked for the City of Sheffield Lake under six different administrations spanning the course of twenty-six years, contributed compassionately at Murray Ridge MRDD, and devoted an extraordinary thirty-two years to the Lorain County Public Health Board where her guidance and service made a lasting impact. In addition, she volunteered at the local hospital, always ready to offer support and kindness to those in need. Toward the end of her working career, her smile, coupled with her aforementioned welcoming personality, put many families at ease in her role as evening visitation hostess for the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel.
Vivian’s compassion was unmatched in her unwavering support of her son during his battle with AIDS. Her advocacy led her to become active in Lorain County HIV/AIDS support efforts, where she offered strength, empathy, and education to others facing similar challenges.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Lyle McCullough in 1992, and her son, Kenneth McCullough in 1998.
Vivian is survived by her brother Dave (Alice) Trubach and her children
Keith (Sharon), Kevin (Dorcas), Kerry (Karen), and Kay (Rich).
She was a proud grandmother to Leah, Colleen (Joe), Rena (John), Kevin Michael (Laurie), Marie (Michael) Walters, Kristofer (Monica), Kara, Kory (Shar), Christy (Jake) Dipzinski, and Andy (Sara) Kulp.
She was also blessed with great‑grandchildren Cody (Kacey) Pittman, Jacob (Allison) Pittman, Kyle (Elena) Bieniek, Joey, Madi (Dale), Max, Lucas (Summer), Hayley (Alex), Stephen, Jace, Tracey (Sean) Halladay, Frankie (Jenna), Kyle, Korinne, Mackenzie, and L.J.
Her legacy continues through her great‑great‑grandchildren Miles, Kenai, Lyle, and Theo.
Vivian will be remembered for her warm spirit, her unwavering commitment to community and faith, her remarkable strength and compassion, and the musical, educational, and family-centered legacy she passed down through generations. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rose Senior Living, in Avon, Ohio, and Buckeye Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
