Sandra M. Lotz, 84, Enjoyed Shopping and Visiting the Casino
Sandra M. Lotz (nee Sturtevant), 84, of Elyria, passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday February 1, 2026 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home.
She was born April 19, 1941 in Elyria to Maurice & Donna Sturtevant (nee Weiber).
Sandy graduated from Brookside High School and attended the St. Joseph School of Nursing where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. After nursing school, she worked in health care in physicians’ offices, hospitals and long-term care. She also became a paramedic and EMT working with National Ambulance as a paramedic coordinator and with the Elyria Township Fire Department where she was proud to have been the first ever female Lieutenant with the department. She was passionate about the healthcare field and loved her years as a paramedic and EMT. Sandy also taught EMT classes at Lorain County Community College.
She was a member of Tower Baptist Church in Lorain and loved spending time with her family and friends, shopping and visiting the casino.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years Thomas A. Lotz; children: Craig DeChant of Asheville, North Carolina and Tiffany DeChant-Hunt (Robert) of Loveland, Ohio; stepchildren: Thomas M. Lotz (Annie) of Louisville, Kentucky and Lisa Lotz (Kirk Miller) of North Ridgeville; grandchildren: Zachary Hunt, Elijah Hunt, Seth Hunt, SarahJane Hunt, Hailey Miller and Clara Lotz, great grandchildren: Freyja Hunt, Fenrir Hunt, sister June Pilger and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Dave & Ian Sturtevant and sister Joan Brown.
The family will receive friends Monday February 9, 2026 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. The Rev. Royal Martin, pastor of Tower Baptist Church, will preside. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
