Mary Jane Robson, 95, Devoted to Her Family and Home
Mary Jane Robson (née Merki), age 95, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Mercy New Life Hospice, following a period of declining health.
She was surrounded by family in her final days.
Mary Jane was born in Sandusky and spent most of her life in Lorain, where she was raised. She received her education from Lorain High School. She was known for her strong work ethic and friendly nature, qualities she shared with many in the community during her years working in the meat department at the Fisher Foods store in the Westgate Shopping Plaza at West 21st Street and North Leavitt Road.
Above all else, Mary Jane was devoted to her family and home. She was a wonderful aunt who took great joy in the lives of her nieces and nephews, always ready with warmth, encouragement, and genuine interest in their stories. A dedicated wife and homemaker, she took pride in caring for those she loved. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst.
Mary Jane found joy in life’s adventures, especially those shared with her late husband, Virgil. Together they enjoyed rockhounding and traveling throughout the continental United States, creating memories that she cherished deeply. She often spoke fondly of trips to historic Gettysburg, the beauty of Niagara Falls, South Dakota, and the awe-inspiring views from Pikes Peak. In her later years, she continued to embrace life with enthusiasm, delighting in bus trips and casino outings.
When at home, Mary Jane delighted in collecting many things, a hobby that reflected her curiosity and appreciation for beauty. Most especially, she treasured her angel collection, which held special meaning for her and brought her daily comfort.She also enjoyed knitting, watching televised golf, mystery movies, and browsing QVC.
Mary Jane is survived by a loving host of nieces and nephews who will remember her kindness, generosity, and the gentle, steady presence she brought to their lives. She also has a brother, John Merki, (Jan) who resides in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Armond Ragnoni; her infant son, Armond Ragnoni, Jr.; her second husband, Virgil Robby Robson; her parents, John and Helen Merki (née Deme); and her sister, Helen Schuster.
Friends may call on Sunday, February 15, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, in the pavilion at St. Joseph Cemetery, Middle Ridge and Pyle South Amherst Roads. Reverend Timothy J. O’Connor, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate.
Memorial contributions in Mary Jane’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or St Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst.
