Daniel J. Ergezi, 85, Enjoyed Traveling
Daniel J. Ergezi, age 85, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at his home during the morning hours of Saturday March 14th, 2026 following an extended illness.
He was born in Lorain on July 5, 1940 and remained a life-long resident of the city; Dan was a 1958-B graduate of Lorain High School.
Following his commencement, he worked for Lorain Steel Stamping as well as Republic Steel (Cleveland) prior to joining the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. He was employed as a technician at C.E.I.’s Avon Lake plant for twenty-five years prior to his retirement.
Dan was a long-time parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Lorain where he formerly served as an usher; he was also a regular and dedicated volunteer working tirelessly on the parish’s annual fund-raising carnival.
In his free time, he received the greatest amount of enjoyment by spending time with his family and establishing a relative presence in the life of his grandson. He was a member of the Stylers Car Club and attended numerous car shows and cruise-ins along the north coast. In addition he looked forward to getting together with fellow friends and retirees for breakfast at Georges Restaurant or the local Burger King several times each week. Dan and his wife enjoyed dancing and travel and considered their trips to the Western United States and numerous national parks amongst their favorites. He was also known to periodically test his luck on casino junkets.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Margo (nee Priebe), son Daniel E. Ergezi (Mary Anne), grandson Nicholas Ergezi, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Ernest, mother Margaret (nee Martonchik), and brother Robert.
Visitation will be Tuesday March 17th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway – Lorain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish – 2143 Homewood Drive at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday March 18th. (Please meet at the church.) Reverend Neil G. Walters, Pastor of the church will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Dan’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers of the Hospice of the Western Reserve for the care and compassion that they provided while Dan was under their care.
