Daniel W. Nichols, 83, Veteran of the US Army National Guard

Photo of Daniel W. Nichols Daniel W. “Dan” Nichols, 83, of Lorain, died peacefully at his home on Saturday April 25, 2026.

He was born November 17, 1942 in Prairie City, Oregon and had resided in Lorain for 5 � years moving from Oklahoma. He had lived in Grants Pass, Oregon most of his life.

Dan served in the US Army National Guard. He began working in the plywood mills in Oregon and later in retail where he traveled extensively visiting retail locations across the United States. Dan also was a pastor for 8 years at Foursquare churches in Oregon. His career came full circle as he retired as a superintendent from the plywood mills.

Dan was a Gentleman Farmer having five acres in Washington state and enjoyed gardening. He enjoyed camping.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Sharon Nichols, daughter Lori Ortiz (Vier) of Lorain, sons: Jeff Nichols (Melissa) of Boca Raton, Florida and Jeremy Nichols (Steffanie) of Alva, Oklahoma; brother Jerry Sullivan, grandchildren: Zachary Hammond, Devin Nichols, Alessandra Nichols, Meah Ortiz, Naomi Nichols, Joshua Nichols, Taylor Nichols, Vier Ortiz, Jorgia Nichols, Ruby Nichols & Matthew Nichols; great grandchildren James Hamlin, Savannah Nichols, Haisley Hamlin and Jasper Nichols. He was preceded in death by his father Webster Nichols, mother Esther Dietz (nee Isaac) and brother Larry Sullivan

The family will receive friends Tuesday May 5, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 6, 2026 at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where AMVETS #32 of Elyria will conduct military honors.
