Jeffery A. Morehart, 82, Former Lorain Police Lieutenant

He was born June 29, 1943 in Lorain to Gene and Theresa “Tess” Morehart and had been a lifelong resident of Lorain.

Jeff graduated from Lorain High School and served in the US Army National Guard. For several years, he worked at US Steel unloading iron ore freighters. At the age of 21, he joined the Lorain Police Department working as a police officer from 1965 until retiring as a Lieutenant in 1993. He then worked as a liaison for Lorain County Engineer Ken Carney.

Jeff was an avid golfer playing regularly at Fox Creek Golf Course where he also spent time working at the course. He was a member of Lorain Elks Lodge #1301, Amherst Eagles Aerie #1442, Knights of Columbus in Lorain, AMVETS Post #47 in Lorain, VFW Post #1662 in Amherst and the Lorain FOP Lodge #3. He enjoyed playing cards and many wonderful times in Wilmington, North Carolina with his wife Sharon and their family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Sharon Morehart (nee McKenzie), brothers: Jim Morehart and Jon Morehart (Amy); sisters: Jennie Nickolls (Edward) and Jacki Mudrich (Scott); sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patti and Lowell Anderson; aunt Mildred “Dolly” Pakos and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gene and Theresa “Tess” Morehart (nee Pakos), sister Jan Britt, brother-in-law Jim Britt, father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Navia McKenzie.

The family will receive friends Tuesday June 16, 2026 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 12:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Rev Craig Hovanec, pastor of St Peter Parish in Lorain, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
