Charles S. Kulchar, 74, Automobile Enthusiast

Photo of Charles S. Kulchar Charles S. “Charley” Kulchar, age 74, passed away peacefully at Reserve Care Ames Family Hospice House on the afternoon of Monday June 8, 2026.

Born in Lorain, Charlie was a 1970 graduate of Admiral King High School and later earned his Associates of Arts degree in Business at Lorain County Community College.

He had been employed as an outside sales representative for Kohlmyer Supply Company in Lorain for thirty years prior to his retirement in 2017.

Charley was an automobile enthusiast who dedicated countless hours acquiring, restoring, and maintaining early vintage motor cars. When not actually turning wrenches in his garage, he could be found doggedly searching for needed parts at swap meets throughout the country; those searches occasionally eclipsed the boundaries of the continental United States with some items being acquired as far away as Australia. In addition, he was a long-time member of the Antique Automobile Club of America which led him on annual trips to the organization’s auto show and swap meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He also found enjoyment from collecting license plates.

He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Peggy (nee Weber), daughter Jennifer Kulchar, and son Charles “Chuck” Kulchar (Nicole). He also leaves grandchildren Kassius King, Oliver Kulchar, Cecilia Kulchar, and brother Gary Kulchar.

Charley was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Helen (nee Gaydosh) Kulchar, and sisters Jean Ferrence and Joan Brannan.

Visitation will take place in Nativity BVM Catholic Church (1545 Lexington Avenue – Lorain) from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Monday June 15th. Reverend Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

Mr. Kulchar’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Reserve Care Hospice for the kindness and comfort they provided during Charley’s care there.

In lieu of flowers, contributons in his memory are encouraged to either Reserve Care Hospice or the Lorain Lions Club.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel; to share your memories and condolences with the Kulchar Family, please visit Charley’s tribute at www.gluvnashimhromada.com.
