Steven C. Mendak, 64, Enjoyed Swimming
Steven C. “Stevie” Mendak, 64, of Lorain, died peacefully on Wednesday June 10, 2026 at the Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital with his family by his side.
Stevie was born July 1, 1961 in Lorain to Steve and Rosemarie Mendak (nee Casello) and had been a lifelong area resident.
Stevie graduated from Murray Ridge School in Elyria in 1984. He attended the Murray Ridge Workshop where he worked as an assembler.
Stevie enjoyed swimming and participated in Special Olympics swim meets for many years. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Murray Ridge Choraleers, which sang at different venues throughout Lorain County. Stevie was a big fan of Looney Tunes cartoons and Sesame Street, as well as Cleveland sports teams. He was proficient at sign language. Stevie also enjoyed bowling in leagues at Brunswick Zone in North Ridgeville.
He is survived by his siblings: Sandra Wolf (Shawn) of Amherst, Richard Mendak of Berea, Ronald Mendak (Ramona) of Cuyahoga Falls, Robert Mendak (Mirta) of Amherst Township and Sharon Kovacs (Tony) of Sheffield Lake; many nieces, nephews and cousins and 2 great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Michaele Anne Mendak.
The family will receive friends Tuesday June 16, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Additional visitation will be held Wednesday June 17, 2026 from 9:30 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N Ridge Rd, Elyria. The Rev Neil Walters, pastor, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
