Margarette Burgdorf, 91, Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother

Photo of Margarette Burgdorf Margarette Burgdorf, née Mielcarek, of Lorain, passed away on July 12, 2026, following a brief stay in hospice. She was 91.

Born on April 21, 1935 to Edward and Patricia Mielcarek, Marge was a proud lifelong resident of Lorain. She graduated from Lorain High and made many friends over the years through her love of bowling, golfing, weekly hair appointments, and her involvement with AMVETS. Marge loved to be around people and brought her unmistakable personality wherever she went.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marge proudly served as the matriarch of the Burgdorf family. She especially loved spending summers at the family cottage in Port Clinton, a gathering place for family and friends since 1969. Over the years, she found great joy in watching generations of her family come together there, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

True to herself in every way, Marge was never afraid to speak her mind. She had a fiery personality, a spunky attitude, and a wonderful ability to dish it out, take it right back, and laugh about it. She was opinionated, social, fun-loving, and never took herself too seriously.

One of Marge’s signature traditions with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her silly little game: if they showed her their tongue, she would give them a dollar. It became her calling card — a playful, unforgettable gesture that perfectly captured her humor, spirit, and love for her family.

Marge is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Paul; sons William (Justine) and Mark (Nancy); grandchildren Megan Burgdorf, Matthew (Michelle) Burgdorf, Fallon (Jonathon) Korinko, Nicholas (DJ) Burgdorf, Bryan (Claire) Burgdorf, Rebecca (Jason) Gwin, and Abigail (Sean) Porter; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Monday, July 20, 2026 from 4:00 until 8:00pm in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. Reverend Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor of Nativity BVM Catholic Church and St. Peter Parish will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
