George M. Rusinko, 87, Former Lorain City Schools Teacher
George M. Rusinko, 87, of Avon Lake, was called home by the Lord peacefully on Friday, July 24th, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital.
On January 30, 1939, George was born on military base Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, to George and Elizabeth Rusinko (nѐe Sutak). His childhood was spent in Lorain, Ohio, before making Avon Lake, Ohio, his home in 1973.
George graduated from St. Mary High School, Lorain, and proudly served his country in both the United States Navy from 1956 to 1959 and the United States Army from 1961 to 1964, where he was a proud member of the Screaming Eagles 101st Airborne Division.
Committed to education throughout his life, George earned a bachelor�s degree from Ashland University and a master�s degree from Kent State University. Professionally, he dedicated more than 32 years to the Lorain City School System teaching mathematics at Charleston, Jane Lindsay (vice principal), Fairhome, and Longfellow elementary schools, where he shaped young lives and positively influenced generations of students.
Outside of the classroom, George embraced a life of activity, staying in shape through powerlifting, weightlifting and daily workouts. George was an avid reader passionate about political and religious literature. George had a passion for aviation and was a flight instructor. He was a true patriot who deeply loved his country, family and the military.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Elaine M. Rusinko (nѐe Logar); his loving children, Nicholas Rusinko (Laura), Jude Rusinko (Christina), and Denise Swanson (nѐe Rusinko, Fred); his cherished granddaughters, Eibhlin Grace and Sybil Elaine; his treasured nieces and nephew, Anna Marie Kilargis (nѐe Nemec, Tom), Joseph Nemec (Julie), Monica Clark (nѐe Nemec, Donald), and Elizabeth Flood; and his many adored great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Barbara Nemec (nѐe Rusinko, Joseph) and Georgiana Flood (nѐe Rusinko, Howard).
