Manuel Guzman, 82, Avid Sports Fan
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Manuel Guzman, a beloved father and grandfather, brother, uncle, military veteran and friend, who left this world on September 14, 2026 in his home in Lorain.
He was born in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico to Manuel and Maria Amelia Guzman.
Manuel's life of 82 years was a testament to hard work, generosity and bravery. Manuel worked from the age of five to help support his family. Manuel readily assumed the role of patriarch after the passing of his father at an early age. Throughout life, Manuel honorably supported all of his siblings by providing financial resources, wisdom and guidance.
Beyond the family, Manuel's love of math led him to college in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, where he enrolled in engineering. He studied for three years before being drafted in 1967 by the United States Military. Manuel bravely served his country, between 1967 and 1969, as part of the 82nd Airborne Division. After carrying out his military service, he completed a career of over 30 years with General Electric and raised a family in Chicago, Illinois.
The father of six was an avid sports fan, in particular the Chicago Bears and White Sox. He loved Latin music and classic Westerns. Manuel's aptitude for numbers made him a worthy adversary when playing either Dominoes or shooting pool, while his sense of humor and quick wit ensured the people playing with him treasured the time spent.
In 2000, Manuel moved to Lorain, where he lived peacefully for the remainder of his life. Manuel provided for those he loved throughout his life and continued on in retirement by caring for his beloved dog Misty.
The person who loved people in his own way and could be counted on is survived by his children: Diana (Michael), Victoria (Chevell), Isabel (Jorge), Carolina, Christian and Luis Guzman; grandchildren Logan and Max Calderon; and his siblings: Carmen (Rafael) Maldonado, Isabel Sierra, Hector (Sandy) Guzman, Patty (Pebay) Mendez, Isabel Guzman, Carmen Bell, Anna Guzman, Madelin (Hiram) Martinez, and David Guzman, and many nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents Manuel was preceded in death by his brother Jose Antonio Guzman.
His family will receive friends at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. His funeral service will be in the funeral home Friday, September 18 at 12 noon. Rev. Father Alexander C. Spenik, Pastor of Sacred Chapel, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Military Honors will be conducted by AMVETS Post 32 of Elyria.
