Pedro Contreras, 94, Loved Hosting Family Gatherings
Pedro Contreras, 94, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 28, 2026 at Lake Pointe Health Center in Lorain under the compassionate care of their staff and that of Suncrest Hospice.
Mr. Contreras was born April 29, 1932 in Naguabo, Puerto Rico to Miguel and Rosa Contreras (nee Gomez). As a child, he and his family moved to Catai, Puerto Rico where he later met his wife, Petra. Pedro and Petra were married in Puerto Rico in 1953 and moved to Buffalo, New York in 1954. Pedro began working at the Ford Assembly Plant in Buffalo, New York and then transferred to the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant in 1958 and worked there until retiring in 1987.
In addition to being employed by the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant, Pedro was a multi-talented construction worker who completed carpentry, roofing and concrete work for his family and friends. He was well known as Carpinteroi. He and Petra also owned rental homes in Lorain.
Pedroi Catholic faith was the foundation upon which he built his life. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, Ohio and used his carpentry skills to help the church when needed. His life was a beautiful reflection of his deep love of God, his family and his community. Although he had a very industrious work ethic, he balanced his work and family life well. He and Petra were known to host many gatherings and dinner parties for family and friends which included dancing, playing dominoes, cards and/or horseshoes. Pedro was also a huge baseball fan and looked forward to visiting the Bacardi Factory in Puerto Rico. His presence was a source of strength, encouragement, and unconditional love.
He is survived by his children: Milagros Minai Davila (Ruben) of Cleveland, Michael Contreras of Arizona, Marie Deshuk of Lorain and Peter Contreras (Heather) of Lorain; grandchildren, Jenny Contreras, Michael Lee Contreras, Yvette Contreras, Marilise Davila Engle (Scott), Ruben Davila II (Nycole), Tia Deshuk, Dominic Deshuk (Julia), Xandria Contreras, Helena Contreras, and Maxwell Contreras; 15 great grandchildren; his sister Cesaria Contreras Gomez, residing in Puerto Rico and his wife of 18 years, Margarita Contreras (nee Prieto).
