Dorothy A. Pakos, 99, Enjoyed Bowling
Dorothy A. Pakos, age 99, passed away peacefully at her Avon Lake residence on Christmas evening.
She was born in Lorain on March 23, 1926 and had been a resident of Lorain County for her entire life.
Dorothy graduated from Lorain High School; later in life she would receive her Associates of Science degree in secretarial studies from Lorain County Community College. She began her working career as a ticket agent for the Lorain Highway Coach Company. She subsequently joined the American Bureau of Shipping’s Cleveland office as an administrative assistant; she remained in that position for a number of years following the firm’s relocation to Westlake. Dorothy retired in 1976 following a career that spanned thirty-five years of dedicated and diligent service.
A long-time parishioner of the former Holy Trinity Church in Lorain, Dorothy most recently attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Avon Lake. She was a member of the Avon Lake Historical Society and also served as a volunteer in the Avon Lake Library Shop. Proud of her Slovak Heritage, Dorothy was a member of the National Slovak Society as well as the American Slovak Club. In her free time she enjoyed bowling and was a familiar face at leagues hosted at the Slovak Bowling Lanes.
Coming from a large family, Dorothy and her sisters welcomed every opportunity to get together and socialize throughout their lives. Often times those gatherings were steeped in humor, good cheer, and a hint of mischief. She is survived by her sister Mildred Dolly Pakos of Lorain and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Martin Pakos, mother Mary Pakos (nee Papajcik), sisters Ann Honey Pakos, Vera Pakos, Rose Shay, Teresa Tess Morehart, Elizabeth Lil Novak, Julie Peppy Nickel, brothers Steve, Martin and Anthony, and step-brother Joseph.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be observed on March 23, 2026, the day she would have celebrated her 100th birthday. Friends may gather in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway, Lorain from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Contributions in her memory are encouraged to the State of Ohio Library for the Blind, 17121 Lakeshore Blvd. Cleveland, Ohio 44110.
