Robert W. Szilvasy, Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend
Robert W. Szilvasy, lovingly known to all who knew him as Bubba, passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
A native of Amherst, Ohio, Bubba was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived a life defined by his deep commitment to family, his generous spirit, and his gift for bringing people together.
Bubba dedicated more than 41 years of hard work to U.S. Steel in Lorain, where he built not only a career but lifelong friendships. Deeply patriotic, he proudly served as Commander of the Sons of the AMVETS Post 47. It was there that he met the love of his life, his beloved wife, Vickie, beginning a partnership grounded in love, respect, and shared values.
Family was the center of Bubba’s world. As his children grew into adults, he remained a constant source of support and encouragementalways present with guidance, pride, and unwavering love. He never missed a game and spent many years as a dedicated CYO coach, leading girls’ basketball and volleyball teams, as well as his sons’ baseball teams. His pride in his children and their accomplishments was unmatched, and his steady presence on the sidelines was a source of strength and inspiration.
Bubba and Vickie cherished their time together, especially traveling with friends on Caribbean cruises. Aruba, their favorite island, held a special place in their hearts and was always a highlight of their journeys.
He had a passion for golf which he shared with his sons and took great pride in achieving four holes-in-one at Fox Creek Golf Cluban accomplishment he truly cherished. At home, Bubba found peace tending to his backyard, nurturing the plants he loved and creating a warm, welcoming space for family and friends.
Affectionately known as the cabana boy, he was happiest poolside, making sure everyone felt at home and cared for.
In his downtime, he enjoyed a good cigar and a perfectly made martini.
The Fourth of July was one of Bubba’s favorite holidays. His legendary parties which included, food, karaoke and amazing fireworks displays brought the entire neighborhood together, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, excitement, and a true sense of community. (Although we aren’t sure if Bubba’s rendition of Fat Bottom Girls was truly appreciated)
He is survived by his adoring wife, Victoria Vickie Szilvasy (nee Kayatin), and his loving children: Carrie Jankowski (Brian), Cindi O’Neill (Todd), Robert Szilvasy Jr. (Val Hayslett), and Tim Szilvasy (Darlena). He was a proud grandfather to Brent, Evelyn, and the apple of his eye, his little mokush, Graeme O’Neill. He is also survived by his sister, Sandy Varouh (Ronald).
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne Szilvasy (nee Janosik), his parents, George and Virginia (nee Milewski) Szilvasy, and his brother, George Skip Silvasy.
Bubba will forever be remembered for his unwavering devotion to family, big heart, his steady presence, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he helped create.
The family will celebrate Bubba’s life in a private ceremony conducted under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel.
