Vernon F. Maher, 80, of Avon Lake, formerly of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a respiratory illness. Mr. Maher was born May 6, 1921 in Cleveland and had lived in Avon Lake for the past 12 years. Mr. Maher began his career in 1946 with the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired in 1982 from Conrail, Cleveland as a Yard Master. He served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II, stationed in Panama as a Medical Assistant. He attended Fenn College, Cleveland.
