He was born August 1, 1932 in Campbell, Ohio and had been a resident of Lorain since his childhood. Mr. Mendgik graduated from Lorain High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy as a broiler tender aboard the USS Columbus during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Medal.
