Francis "John" Rodgers, 73, Avon Lake
Francis "John" Rodgers, 73, of Avon Lake formerly of Ebensburg, PA, passed away June 1 at his home of cancer. Mr. Rodgers was born November 5, 1927 in Cresson, PA and moved to Avon Lake in 1957. He was employed by the Avon Lake City Schools Board of Education, where he taught history and social studies for 37 years. Mr. Rodgers taught at the Avon Lake High School, Learwood Middle School, and Troy Intermediate School. Upon his retirement in 1994 and for the past 6 years, Mr. Rodgers continued his employment with the School System as a crossing guard.

She enjoyed the outdoors.

Harold A. Ackerman, 59, of Avon Lake, passed away Thursday, May 24 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain. He was born December 19, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved to Avon Lake 22 years ago coming from Cleveland and Germansville, Pennsylvania. Harold was a 1961 graduate of Shaw High School in Cleveland. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. Harold was employed as a Logistics Consultant for Distribution Data, Inc. for the past twelve years. He enjoyed doing handiwork around the home and gardening and golfing. He was a collector of trading pins.

Harold Robert Dietrich, 63, Corporal in US Marine Corps
Harold "Hal" Robert Dietrich, 63, of Avon Lake passed away suddenly Thursday, May 24. He was born August 18, 1937 in Cleveland and resided in a number of communities on the West Side before moving to Avon Lake a year ago. He was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and received an associate degree from Cooper School of Art in Cleveland and also attended Fenn College in Cleveland. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1956 to 1958 and in the reserve until 1962. Mr. Dietrich retired from the Plain Dealer as an assistant manager for marketing and research in 1995. He was also a retired deacon of the Catholic Church, having served at St. Richard's Parish in North Olmsted, Holy Trinity Parish, Avon and most recently Holy Spirit Parish in Avon Lake. Fr. James H. Beatty of Holy Spirit Church expressed that he served the church as a deacon with distinction. Hal was a member of the Holy Spirit Church, Avon Lake and enjoyed gardening, traveling and art.
